Yanks hope arms hold up down stretch
NEW YORK — The need that the Yankees had identified as their most pressing — pitching depth — went relatively unaddressed at the Trade Deadline, with no reinforcements to be found at a price they could stomach.
Having fought their way to the top of the American League East by timing their hot streaks well, the Yankees know that holding a first-place flag in August won’t mean much in September. It will be up to their pitching staff to make sure that they can hold opposing teams at bay, particularly the Red Sox, against whom they enter the second half still staring at a winless record in eight tries so far this season.
